With provisions for several days on his back and Carlos by his side Seth, the Prophet, leaves the town. A crowd follow them all day until as dusk approaches they begin to depart in small groups.

Finally only one man remains and Seth stops. “Isn’t it time you returned home?”

“My name is Lastag. Before I leave I want to thank you for all you said and the message you carried from God to celebrate same sex relationships. I have been living with the knowledge of the love me and my friend Tommy share for twenty years. He too is married and we get few opportunities to share our bodies. You have given us fresh hope.”

“There is no certainty the community will change. Even with God behind me, many find my message difficult to accept. I wish you and Tommy a happy and fulfilled future.” Seth watches him until he rounds a corner and disappears.

With the last camp follower gone, Carlos turns to Seth and with a worried frown on his face says, “Seth I’m sorry I turned on you during the trial. I didn’t want to die, what else could I do?”

Seth decides to play along for a bit, “You fooled me Carlos, I thought you had sex with me willingly.”

“But I did, I did. And I want to again.”

“If I use my powers, you won’t have a choice.”

“Stop fooling around, you know you can’t control me.”

Suppressing a smile, Seth continues, “I didn’t think I had the power to rebound bullets either, but I do.”

“Don’t be crazy. Stop talking nonsense.”

Seth relents, “I know Carlos, I never doubted you. When you turned on me at the trial, I finally understood how members of hated minorities are controlled. By killing me, and leaving you alive as an example to the rest of the community, they achieve the perfect punishment. You live the miserable life of someone who is continually denying his deepest needs in a living hell, one that others dare not risk entering by following a similar path to me and opposing the leaders.”

Carlos is still annoyed with himself, “I was a coward. I should have told the court it was my fault. They would have believed it.”

“Carlos, I understand. I didn’t want you killed and as it turned out I wasn’t going to be killed anyway.”

“But you didn’t know that.”

“No, but. in the end the Leader got exactly what he deserved.”

Later as they share some of the food prepared by Esther Carlos asks, “Tell me what really happened back there? People say God sent you and gave you the power to work miracles? Were you really wearing invisible armour?”

Seth looks up from his meat pie, “I was lucky to choose Benjamin and Esther as my hosts. Esther is a wonderful cook.”

“That’s not what I’m asking you about.”

“What then?”

“Bullets don’t kill you.”

“So it seems.”

“But such things can’t happen. Even though I saw it with my own eyes, I don’t believe it. Are you a wizard?”

“I still can’t believe it happened either and I haven’t a clue as to how it happened.
